REVIEW:

I couldn't wait to talk about this extraordinary Canadian film, which I consider without hesitation one of the best horror films of all time, so much so that it is in my personal top 5 of the genre. The director, Vincenzo Natali, is often unfairly underrated, but with Cube he has demonstrated a visionary talent that deserves full recognition.

This is his first feature film, the film that made him a household name, and despite an extremely low budget (around $350,000), it manages to give the impression of a much more ambitious and refined work than one might expect. Its strength lies in a simple but incredibly effective basic idea, developed with great intelligence. The plot evolves in a compelling way, but what is even more striking is the depth of the characters: initially they seem to embody stereotypes, but gradually they reveal unexpected facets, making the film even more engaging.

Another exceptional aspect is the direction, which manages to convey a sense of claustrophobia and growing tension, making the viewer live an almost surreal experience. The atmosphere that Natali manages to create is hypnotic, crazy and disturbing, a perfect balance between psychological thriller and horror.

In short, Cube is not just a film, but a true cult, a work of rare originality that anyone who loves the genre should absolutely recover!

Longlegs

2024

A satanic and unrecognizable Nicolas Cage in one of the most complex and successful horror films of the year. Oz Perkins, son of the iconic Anthony (Psycho) directs a horror for adults, finally without screaming and laughing teenagers. Very beautiful images in a sulphurous, depressing and morbid atmosphere... it reminds us of cornerstones such as "The Silence of the Lambs" in particular for how it proposes the detective-killer scheme. A cynical film, about the fall of illusions instilled in us as children by weak mothers, and it is the detective's mother who... Read More

Talk to Me

2022

Extremely contemporary horror, capable of maintaining high tension and shot with skill, it works better than many others because it seems that the two directors know the target audience of this type of film well and have thought of it first of all to entertain, succeeding very well. In short, a creepypasta perhaps, yes but well done and not at all superficial, the underlying theme is the lack of communication between generations, which pushes teenagers to seek increasingly extreme emotions, in this case to talk to the dead perhaps because they are unable to confide in... The Exorcism - Last Act

2024

Russell Crowe is becoming a darling of horror cinema and after the success of "The Pope's Exorcist" he returns in a cassock, but this time it is a fiction, in fact in the film Crowe plays himself... an actor in both physical and mental decline. The film is worth little but thanks to the good Russell we have fun... Especially watching him go from a depressed mood bordering on suicide to a diabolical and ruthless one of possessed, always very fascinating and effective. Beautiful photography.

The Watchers

2024

Feature film debut by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of the more famous M. Night. Freely adapted from the fantasy-horror novel of the same name by A. M. Shine, the film boasts an evocative and disturbing atmosphere and is not lacking in twists. Well done Dakota Fanning. The pace, however, is fluctuating and some passages are a little confusing, perhaps due to the director's inexperience, but as a first effort, it's still not bad.

The Pope's Exorcist

2023

An investigative horror/thriller with strong supernatural undertones, but for those expecting something similar to the famous 1973 Exorcist, you will be disappointed, this is a much lighter product and I say thank goodness! The entire staging is on the shoulders of a self-deprecating, charming and effective protagonist, aided by a bass drum of special effects especially in the second part, arriving at an almost grotesque ending. Ultimately I would say a film with a high level of entertainment and often even funny that does not want to offer anything more than that.
