Halloween Ends

2022
7
Director:
David Gordon Green

SYNOPSIS:

Four years after her last encounter with Michael Myers, Laurie Strode finally decides to break free and start living. However, a murder ends up unleashing a cascade of violence and terror that forces her to face evil.

REVIEW:

The film closes the David Gordon Green trilogy that began in 2018 and continued in 2021 with Halloween Kills, it is branded Blumhouse and this should be the last chapter (but will it really be like that we all wonder) of the saga that began in 1978 by John Carpenter. The era of Michael Myers ends, the most irrepressible killer in the history of horror cinema ever, mentor of every bloodthirsty masked homicidal maniac who came after him. There is certainly the intent to pay homage to the dark atmospheres of the progenitor film but also the desire to surprise, by inserting an absolutely new bad guy to act as a sidekick to good old Michael.
But what really interested the audience, the long-awaited final confrontation between Michael Myers and Laurie, does not disappoint and confirms the power of this nightmare story that after more than 40 years continues to fascinate.

"Evil does not die, it transforms" is the enigmatic final message of the film... Will it really be over?

You Should Have Left

2020

Psychological thriller based on the novel of the same name by German Daniel Kehlmann, who in turn was inspired by the literary cult "House of Leaves" but wrote a much simpler and shorter, but still interesting, story. Successful transposition especially for the suggestive and disturbing dreamlike atmospheres that are created inside the mysterious and beautiful house that is the real protagonist of the film. Maybe it won't be scary enough for fans of the genre but I liked it like this, instead I didn't find the psychological characterization of the characters... Read More

Doctor Sleep

2019

Direct sequel to Stanley Kubrick's cult film "The Shining" based on Stephen King's novel and always hated by him for the many liberties taken in the screenplay compared to the original text. Directed by Mike Flanagan, a horror expert (Oculus 2013). Unfortunately, the comparison with the 1980 film does not hold up. The narration is too classic and tasteless and the nostalgia factor does not fascinate as it would like, furthermore the film is too long and slow. But the many horror and supernatural scenes are of great quality and are truly disturbing, so much so that they... Read More

Willy's Wonderland

2021

Nicolas Cage in this film does not say a word from beginning to end, making him even more convincing, the film is completely focused on him, and I say fortunately because it is certainly not a masterpiece, but something original with crude humor, vaguely perverse and in its own way intelligent. A great and safe entertainment for teenagers this B movie where we find a lot of action, splatter, the Final Girl and the hero / anti-hero, in a disturbing setting, with terrifying but also funny monsters, all reminiscent of the low budget films of the 80s. The splatter... Read More

Bones and all

2022

Adaptation of the novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis. A cannibal love story... about the need to find someone who knows how to love us for who we are. Luca Guadagnino returns to unconventional horror, after the 2018 remake Suspiria, and does so with a coming-of-age story, delicate and bloody at the same time, very deep and very bloody, suitable for those looking for horror but also emotion. A film that certainly cannot leave you indifferent, it is a film with two souls, the purely romantic one for girls and the dark, cynical and bestial one. A masterpiece,... Read More

Fantasy Island

2020

A horror remake of the famous ABC TV series from the 70s/80s that keeps almost nothing of the original, only the magnificent island of dreams. Another low-budget production by Blumhouse designed not for what we all expected, that is, a middle-aged audience nostalgic for the TV series, but instead, as usual, for kids. A youthful soft horror that badly mixes various genres, thriller, melodrama, comedy, blending everything together... The result is a dull and idealess film, with an anonymous cast. In short, extremely boring.
