| 2022Adaptation of the novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis.
A cannibal love story... about the need to find someone who knows how to love us for who we are. Luca Guadagnino returns to unconventional horror, after the 2018 remake Suspiria, and does so with a coming-of-age story, delicate and bloody at the same time, very deep and very bloody, suitable for those looking for horror but also emotion. A film that certainly cannot leave you indifferent, it is a film with two souls, the purely romantic one for girls and the dark, cynical and bestial one. A masterpiece,... Read More |
| 2020A horror remake of the famous ABC TV series from the 70s/80s that keeps almost nothing of the original, only the magnificent island of dreams. Another low-budget production by Blumhouse designed not for what we all expected, that is, a middle-aged audience nostalgic for the TV series, but instead, as usual, for kids. A youthful soft horror that badly mixes various genres, thriller, melodrama, comedy, blending everything together... The result is a dull and idealess film, with an anonymous cast. In short, extremely boring. |
| 2019Jim Jarmusch, after the vampire love story "Only Lovers Left Alive" returns to horror contaminations, with a star-studded cast that includes the inevitable Tilda Swinton, but that does not reach the same level of quality. An authorial tribute to the films, now true cults, by George A. Romero with a political environmentalist message and hordes of hungry zombies, many splatter scenes, which will perhaps delight some fans but not me. If at least we were hoping for a lot of laughs instead we find a film without rhythm and humor. Too bad because the cast is fabulous and I say... Read More |
| 2022Based on Stephen King's novel, it had already been brought to the cinema in 1984, starring a very young Drew Barrymore arriving from the set of E.T., with terrible results. 40 years later, things are not better, after all we know that Blumhouse production specializes in low-budget horror, and it shows! From the special effects, to the acting, to the settings, everything is bland without ideas or emotions. The only thing that is saved from the film is the soundtrack by the great John Carpenter (who in '84 should have directed it, but who was unfortunately replaced).... Read More |
| 2023Renfield is a tribute that is a bit splatter and a bit black comedy to the classic vampire horror films where in the role of Count Dracula we find an eccentric Nicolas Cage thirty years after his performance in "Vampire's Kiss" and in that of the servant Nicholas Hoult. Stuffed with fight scenes where heads and limbs fly endlessly in the long run it is repulsive and boring, the film is worth watching only for the two good and charming protagonists, who move through seductive sets in a very 80s atmosphere that I like so much. Finally I can only say that my great... Read More |
