It is the sixth addition to the franchise, joining other recent hits like The Nun and Annabelle in fleshing out the world first introduced by the original Conjuring back in 2013. It’s also the directorial debut of... Read More
WinchesterMovie Review What horror fan doesn’t love a good haunted house story – especially one based on real people, places, and events? That’s Winchester in a nutshell. If you’ve ever been to San Jose’s Winchester Mystery House (or heard of it), then you’re already somewhat familiar with the backstory to Winchester. Also known as “the house that ghosts built”, the Winchester Mystery House was built by Sarah Winchester, widow of William Winchester, inventor of the famous rifle. After her husband and daughter both pass away, the grieving Sarah becomes convinced that she’s... Read More
Amityville TheaterMovie Review In my opinion, it seemed to keep a little history of Amityville. They used a Ouija board like back in the old Amityville Horror movie. This movie had hardly anything to do with Amityville except that it was in Amityville, NY. Other than that, this had really nothing to do with the history of the house at all. The soundtrack and music in the movie should have had some trace back to Amityville with as far as the theme. Some parts were cool and crazy. Altogether, this movie was ok. That is my review. It is short because I have nothing much else to say.
The BabadookMovie Review The fear present in The Babadook is almost unfounded. It's hard to remember the last time a potent, eerie mood piece fit this much terror within its walls - both physically and psychologically. Not that films today don't have the power of scaring their audience, it's just that the effect is surface-layer for the most part, easy to shake off because of a certain distance to be attained. In other words, the fear is so within its own horror genre that once taken out the fact that it's a film meant to scare, it does nothing. The Babadook masterfully allows everyone else currently making horror films to take note,... Read More
OculusMovie Review Do you chew your nails? Does it take you more than one effort to rip the band-aid off? Do you sometimes think you saw some stray object and then when you look again, think you were mistaken? A series of small incidents, like the ones mentioned above, make the latest addition to the horror films genre, 'Oculus', an intriguing watch.
OuijaMovie Review As kids, best friends Debbie and Laine used to play with Laine's Ouija board. It was merely a creepy little diversion since neither of them really believed the game was connecting them to "other side." So it was just the eerie idea that some ghostly figure had its invisible hand on the planchette with theirs—moving the plastic pointer from letter to letter on the board—that kept them going at it, giggling all the while. The rules they played by? (Laine had picked them up somewhere and said they should never be broken.) You never played alone. You never played in a graveyard. You always said goodbye at... Breaking at The EdgeMovie Review Breaking at the Edge is a 2013 horror film that’s actually more creepy than scary. Two brothers kill their half sister in order to inherit their wealthy estranged father’s estate. And when the younger brother’s pregnant wife finds out, they plot to kill her too. 2 out of 10 stars. What I didn’t like was the truly bad acting by the Brazilian actress and the “ghost” of Sara Randolph. We’ve come a lot further than this. The rest of the cast wasn’t much better. Bad casting can really ruin a film. Ian and Bianca Wood are expecting a baby. But Bianca is having pains and they have a history of miscarriages. Bianca... Read More

The Psychology of Making Horror Movies ScaryHorror News The Psychology of Making Horror Movies Scary Did you every show a favorite terrifying horror move to a friend only to have them not frightened at all? Maybe it happened the other way around? Horror movies as a genre are one of the most complicated in the business, and a huge portion of this comes down to their effect and reliance on human psychology. The key components of this are not just individual but are also social and cultural, and it is only when these factors hit all of our triggers that we are the most terrified. One of the first things we need to take into account when looking at horror movie psychology is how... Read More |
