Director:
Luca Guadagnino

SYNOPSIS:

The 1980s. Maren is a teenager who lives with her father in Virginia. However, she has a very particular nature, which will lead her father to abandon her. So, Maren will have to learn to make do: she will decide to set out in search of her mother, whom she has never known, to see if she can find a foothold to hold on to. Along the way, Maren will meet other misfits, including Lee, a charming and out-of-control boy who, like her, seems to have no reference points. The two will immediately understand that they have many aspects that unite them, and for this reason they will decide to continue the journey together.

REVIEW:

Adaptation of the novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis.
A cannibal love story... about the need to find someone who knows how to love us for who we are.
Luca Guadagnino returns to unconventional horror, after the 2018 remake Suspiria, and does so with a coming-of-age story, delicate and bloody at the same time, very deep and very bloody, suitable for those looking for horror but also emotion. A film that certainly cannot leave you indifferent, it is a film with two souls, the purely romantic one for girls and the dark, cynical and bestial one. A masterpiece, engaging and poetic. The two protagonists are both exceptional.

The menù

2022

Culinary horror that serves us a ferocious satire on social inequality and the vulgar opulence of the rich, mocking the world of conceptual/molecular cuisine where you eat very little and spend a lot. What should have been an exclusive dinner turns into carnage under the crazy direction of a great, funny and at the same time glacial Ralph Fiennes. The tension is growing and the twists follow one another repeatedly. Surprising until the last scene. All the actors are excellent. A must see.

Maxxxine

2024

The film is the last chapter of a trilogy that always stars the talented Mia Goth, here supported by a great cast of actors, especially Kevin Bacon. A thriller with horror veins super colorful and sunny that among cult songs of the 80s, pays homage to classics of the genre such as "Psycho" and "Red Light Murder". The female protagonist, ambitious, cynical, ruthless and desperate, with a veil of sadness always on her is hypnotic enough to be the perfect FinalGirl to admire and love despite the things she says: "I always wanted to be famous!" - "I will not accept a life... The substance

2024

Body horror, a genre where the horror comes from the repugnant alteration of bodies, how can we not mention cults like "The Fly" by David Cronenberg or "Society - The Horror" directed by Brian Yuzna. I really liked the first part where we have fun with a truly surprising Demi Moore until the clone enters the scene, then the film descends into the most vulgar and useless vulgarity with long and repetitive scenes of erotic gymnastics. Even if the general idea of the film is certainly not original, the photography and the scenography are fascinating but in the second part... Read More

The well

The well

The twilight settings and the acting performances even of the minor roles are very appreciable, some scenes in the finale give a touch perhaps unintentionally funny that I personally appreciate a lot in horror films. A simple but well-crafted story, with realistic dialogues, the long gore scenes in the film could disturb those like me who do not appreciate them but prefer dark atmospheres and mystery, which are not lacking anyway. A low-budget production that does not disappoint but rather transports us to the past of an Italian genre cinema that is now almost defunct.

Late Night with the Devil

Late Night with the Devil

2023

Late Night with the Devil by directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes uses a retro TV show setting to create an unnerving atmosphere that draws viewers into a slowly intensifying horror. The film’s attention to detail, from the 70s grainy footage style to shifting between black-and-white and color, sets the tone perfectly. The clever cinematography immerses audiences as if they’re watching a live broadcast unraveling in real time, a technique that intensifies the suspense, especially during the eerie "commercial breaks." David Dastmalchian’s portrayal of Jack Delroy is a... Read More
