Director:
Brad Anderson

SYNOPSIS:

From director Brad Anderson comes Vanishing on 7th Street, a terrifying, apocalyptic thriller that taps into one of humankind’s most primal anxieties: fear of the dark. An unexplained blackout plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, and by the time the sun rises, only a few people remain—surrounded by heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. A small handful of strangers that have survived the night each find their way to a rundown bar, whose gasoline-powered generator and stockpile of food and drink make it the last refuge in a deserted city. With daylight beginning to disappear completely and whispering shadows surrounding the survivors, they soon discover that the enemy is the darkness itself, and only the few remaining light sources can keep them safe. As time begins to run out for them, darkness closes in and they must face the ultimate terror.

REVIEW:

Even a solid cast (for the most part) and a few eerie moments cannot save this unoriginal thriller from its own generic silliness. Tack onto it an ending that is creepier than the movie as a whole, only because of what it implies. The characters are cliche and do foolish things.

There never really is an explanation which would have been good, at least in regard to why the days were suddenly shorter. There were some cool effects (the plane) but again, these weren't strong enough to save this flimsy film.

The movie really miss some suspance. Scenes develop without any tension. And sometimes gets really boring. It could be because the script is no t the best part of the movie.

All the different characters seems quite disconnected that's why the story can't flow a lot.  A good note about the Music, which is not bad, sometimes just out of topic. Photography it's often similar to a tv-movie Serie. The story recalls alot vampires tales: in both cases darkness kills people and creatures take power from darkness.

Not the best movie of this good director.

The Exorcism - Last Act

2024

Russell Crowe is becoming a darling of horror cinema and after the success of "The Pope's Exorcist" he returns in a cassock, but this time it is a fiction, in fact in the film Crowe plays himself... an actor in both physical and mental decline. The film is worth little but thanks to the good Russell we have fun... Especially watching him go from a depressed mood bordering on suicide to a diabolical and ruthless one of possessed, always very fascinating and effective. Beautiful photography.

The Watchers

2024

Feature film debut by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of the more famous M. Night. Freely adapted from the fantasy-horror novel of the same name by A. M. Shine, the film boasts an evocative and disturbing atmosphere and is not lacking in twists. Well done Dakota Fanning. The pace, however, is fluctuating and some passages are a little confusing, perhaps due to the director's inexperience, but as a first effort, it's still not bad.

The Pope's Exorcist

2023

An investigative horror/thriller with strong supernatural undertones, but for those expecting something similar to the famous 1973 Exorcist, you will be disappointed, this is a much lighter product and I say thank goodness! The entire staging is on the shoulders of a self-deprecating, charming and effective protagonist, aided by a bass drum of special effects especially in the second part, arriving at an almost grotesque ending. Ultimately I would say a film with a high level of entertainment and often even funny that does not want to offer anything more than that.

Piove

2022

The film makes us sink into the life of a family in disarray, where anger and depression take over. In the background a gray, rainy, embittered Rome. Horror that goes deep, both to scare and to make you think, a genre of film that is rarely seen and innovative. Beautiful photography and excellent performances.

Imaginary

2024

A rather basic film, almost for children, calling it horror is not really appropriate, because it is not scary, but this could also be forgiven and still enjoy a teddy bear not evil enough if it were not such a boring and slow film with weak and insignificant characters. In short, badly acted and made. To forget.
