Overkill's The Walking Dead
Overkill’s The Walking Dead is a tie in to the well-known series created by Robert Kirkman and to the #1 AMC hit show of the same name. The game will be incorporating the primary theme of survival horror, as well as elements like role-playing, action, and stealth; it “invites players to explore the hugely popular The Walking Dead universe, where they will play the role of survivors fending for themselves in a post apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating walkers.” The game will be set in the fall in Washington.
Delays for Overkill Software’s anticipated co-op FPS, The Walking Dead are, at this point, unsurprising. The game was first announced back in 2014 and has been subjected to tentative release dates ever since. Last year, it was said the game would be delayed until the second half of 2017. Now, we have news from Starbreeze Studios’ website (Starbreeze owns Overkill Software- the more you know, right?) that the anticipated title will be delayed yet again. When can we expect the game now? The second half of 2018.
Experience Overkill’s The Walking Dead late 2018
Starbreeze did not provide an exact reason for the delay, but it could safe to assume it’s the usual “we want to make the best game we can” mantra.
When the game was announced three years ago, it was met with great enthusiasm from fans of The Walking Dead, especially given the head-scratcher that was Activision’s Survival Instinct which was released one year prior. Overkill wants to do the fans and the series itself justice, and it could very well turn into the co-op survival game The Walking Dead fans have been waiting on.
The Walking Dead was announced for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and will also feature a complimentary VR-experience. Hopefully we won’t have to wait until 2018 to finally get our hands on it.
